Dode, a French rock group from Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, is well worth discovering. The group offers a fusion between electrifying rock and chiseled lyrics carried by the vibrant voice of Eric Dodeman. A concert that grabs you, a rare musical event, bathed in a light evoking the omnipresent ocean. To see and rewatch without moderation.

The group Dode has existed since 2009. Originally from Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, this group of friends with multiple influences has one foot on the North American continent to the sound of ethereal guitars and rock of the great outdoors, and the other firmly anchored in French culture, lulled by the words of Léo Ferré or Baudelaire. In their first album, four tracks cover passages from Flowers of Evil dont “The Dancing Snake“. A radio journalist impressed by the group’s talent wrote: Dode undoubtedly descends from a cursed poet who returned from darkness to pass on his talent to him. Perhaps Baudelaire, Ferré, Brel or Kurt Cobain infiltrate Dode’s soul. These guys saw me. They offer nervous rock without being aggressive, powerful without being heavy.
The group proudly claims its dual influence. Result: a pure summary of French rock, evoking Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine and the breath of Noir Désir, carried by the gravelly voice, on the verge of cracking, of the very inhabited Éric Dodeman, performer and author of the majority of the texts. The musical compositions and arrangements are created in a collegial manner. Almost all the music teachers in the archipelago, at least three of them, are part of the group. Dode continues to renew its style thanks to the musical diversity of its members.
Three albums (Dead in 2009, Comedy in 2011 and Salt in 2014) are available to explore the breadth of the universe of Saint-Pierre musicians, but it is especially on stage that the group reveals all its captivating strength. Since then, the group has released a few singles available on major streaming platforms.
To the lives that serve, to the heroes we hope for. To those who dream, in the cold where we huddle together. To the wise men we lose, bitter, to love and lightning. To the new angels who dance and life which begins once more, and which remains eternal.

Captured in January 2023, the concert electrified the crowd of spectators gathered in a real Saint-Pierre setting. A place as unique as it is symbolic: a large hangar for restoring dories, these small traditional wooden boats, typical of the archipelago and emblems of artisanal fishing. The old metal structure recalls the heyday of Saint-Pierre when cod fishing was in full swing, as well as the less glorious hours of prohibition (illegal alcohol left this shed for the American continent).
