Laptop users will finally be able to take advantage of this feature that was previously reserved for desktop users. This allows the screen to automatically adjust its brightness according to the content being displayed. On a desktop, this reduces power consumption, while on a laptop, it should help save a bit of battery life.
Microsoft has just released Windows 11 build 25346 on Canary Channel with a useful feature for laptop users. This is called CABC, for Adaptive Content Brightness Control, and as its name suggests, it has a role in automatically adjusting screen brightness. To do this, it will analyze what is displayed on the screen and respond accordingly.
Let’s say you’re watching a video on your computer: the brightness will increase on darker images and decrease on brighter images, without you having to touch anything. In fact, the change should be almost imperceptible, so as not to spoil the viewing experience. Until now, this feature was only available for desktop computers.

If this feature reminds you of something, it’s normal: it’s very similar to DDR, or Dynamic Refresh Rate, which also reduces the power consumption of a computer by adjusting the refresh rate according to the situation. Also, CABC can be found in Windows Settings under System > Display, in the Brightness & Color section.

At the moment, this option only seems to work when the laptop is plugged in. As you understand, here it is not regarding saving the battery, but the energy. However, this coming to a laptop is certainly no coincidence, and we imagine Microsoft intends to use it to maintain the independence of its users.
Note that build 25346 also arrives following some small interface changes, especially for notification pop-ups related to security alerts. But there is no major revolution there.
