Discourse on Moving Import Ports Affects Business Climate

Discourse on moving import ports affects business climate (Doc)

The discourse on moving import ports to Eastern Indonesia is considered to have an influence on the business climate. Regarding this matter, the Association of Indonesian Refrigeration Companies (PERPRINDO) held a discussion with the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) at the APINDO office. This discussion focuses on the government’s plan to move import ports to the eastern region of Indonesia.

The meeting was attended by PERPRINDO Secretary General Andy Arif Widjaja, Deputy Secretary General Heryanto, Head of Trade and Industry Henry Sofian, as well as APINDO General Chair Shinta Widjaja Kamdani and several other administrators. The main aim of this discussion is to provide input to the government, especially the Ministry of Industry, regarding the readiness of port infrastructure in eastern Indonesia.

“The results of the discussion show that international shipping connectivity at eastern ports is inadequate. If this port becomes an import port, this could result in a significant price increase for commercial refrigeration products, such as chest freezers and showcases, which are really needed by MSME players,” Andy was quoted as saying. in Jakarta, Thursday (26/6).

Andy said that apart from that, there is a risk of a shortage of cooling products that cannot be produced domestically, which will ultimately be detrimental to society.

Shinta Widjaja Kamdani, General Chair of APINDO, revealed that APINDO will conduct further studies regarding this issue and provide recommendations to the government so that the policies implemented do not disrupt the business climate.

Deputy Secretary General of PERPRINDO Heryanto added that moving import ports should be carried out for products that can be produced domestically. For products that have not been produced locally, it is recommended that import ports be maintained to avoid negative impacts on the industry.

The two associations agreed to conduct a more in-depth study and provide input to the government as a discussion partner in efforts to build a better business climate in Indonesia. (Z-8)
