Preparing Discord is coming soon to allow developers to create new games and apps that can be used directly in the chat app.

A selection of mini-games and apps have been available to platform users for months.

Starting from March 18, Discord intends to allow all its developers to access a new software development kit called Embedded App that allows developers to create these embedded applications.

Discord used the Activities feature to allow apps like YouTube to run, promote mini-games, and encourage users to play.

All of these apps appear as iframes embedded within Discord, though they are limited to specific developers so far.

The platform said in a blog post: “Many Discord developers have set their eyes on the Activities feature, and are wondering when they can create their applications. Starting March 18, our developers can create new games and experiences that can be played directly on the platform through the new Embedded App software development kit.”

The new Embedded App SDK makes the Activities section available to multiple developers, and the platform wants to see more mini-games that can be played directly within conversations.

Discord added: “We want the platform to grow into the best place for developers to create, publish, distribute, discover and monetize games and apps. We want the platform to be the place where your app starts and finds a home in people’s communities around the world, as well as being the place that allows you to publish your app.” “Easily among friends.”

The platform is experimenting with a method that allows users to add applications to their accounts so that they can move through the servers. Developers can activate applications for specific accounts, and this experience is supposed to be launched alongside the new Embedded App software development kit on March 18.

Discord is also working on bringing back its app demos, where developers can pitch prototype app ideas and secure up to $30,000 in funding.

Last year, a few AI tools won some funding money, along with a camera app and a city-building mini-game.

All of these development-focused improvements come just weeks following Discord announced the layoff of regarding 17 percent of its employees.

The platform is experimenting with new developer experiences to improve user growth, including partnering with game developers to sell avatars and account effects.
