Al-Marsad Newspaper – Agencies: The World Travel and Tourism Council revealed its expectations regarding the date of the sector’s return to the levels before the Corona virus pandemic, which spread in the world.
The council stated that the tourism and travel sector is expected to return to pre-coronavirus levels in 2023, and to grow at a rate that exceeds the growth rate of global GDP.
A report issued by the council at a conference in Manila indicated that the sector is expected to record an average annual growth of 5.8 percent in the period from 2022 to 2032, compared to an expected average growth of GDP of 2.7 percent in the same period, and to provide 126 million new jobs, it said. It should be noted that in 2019, the tourism sector was responsible for a tenth of GDP and jobs, but the Corona virus pandemic has undermined the estimated size of the sector, which is estimated at 9.6 trillion dollars, halving the value of its revenue and causing 62 million people to be laid off from their jobs.
For her part, said Julia Simpson, President of the Council, “the recovery will be very strong, pointing out that this depends of course on China to end the closure,” calling on governments to reopen borders.
