Al-Marsad newspaper – agencies: Dr. Yelena Voskresenskaya, a Russian nutrition expert, announced that there are foodstuffs that help compensate for the lack of vitamin D in the body.

In an interview with the Russian RIA Novosti news agency, the expert indicated that vitamin D is one of the important vitamins for the body, as it helps absorb calcium and phosphorous from food, and prevents osteoporosis and the development of cancer.

She says, “The body produces regarding 90 percent of vitamin D with the help of ultraviolet rays, but in the winter when the sun’s rays are reduced due to the cloudy sky, the deficiency of this vitamin can be compensated by eating fatty fish such as salmon, cod liver, black and red caviar. This vitamin is from forest mushrooms, not what is sold in the market. This vitamin is also found in eggs, beef, butter, goat’s milk and cheese.”

The expert notes that vitamin D supports the health of the nervous and immune system, and regulates the level of cholesterol in the blood. “It must be said, that a lot of people are deficient in vitamin D and they need to take care of that,” she says.
