Disclosure of a specific diet is the key to preventing diabetes

Al-Marsad Newspaper – Agencies: A recent medical study found that a low-carb diet helps prevent diabetes (2), and lowers blood sugar for people with diabetes and those at risk of developing the disease.

According to the study conducted by researchers from Tulane University in Louisiana, USA, and their results were published in the journal “Gamma Network Open”, low-carb diets reduce glycated hemoglobin A1C, which is an indicator of blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.

The study included participants aged between 40 and 70 years, whose blood sugar ranged between pre-disease levels and those ideal for the onset of the disease, noting that everyone did not take any diabetes medication.

A group was given foods containing less than 40 grams of carbohydrates during the first three months, and less than 60 grams in the following months from 3 to 6 months.

The researchers compared the tests of the two groups, the first who ate a low-carbohydrate diet, and the other who continued their normal diet, and found a decrease in glycated hemoglobin A1C for the first group.

The Dietary Guidelines recommend that 20 to 57 grams of carbohydrates, which provide 80 to 240 calories per day, are typical on a low-carb diet.
