The developments in the tragic case with the fatal amusement park in Pefkohori, where the 19-year-old Yiannis met a horrible death, are fast-paced.
The secretary of the decentralized administration, Yiannis Savvas, according to information from ERT, initiated disciplinary proceedings against both the mayor of Kassandra, Anastasia Chalkias, and a deputy mayor involved in the case of licensing and control of the particular amusement park.
This means both are being referred to the Electoral Disciplinary Board, which will meet in the coming days. There they will give explanations and it will be decided whether disciplinary measures will be taken against them.

What the owner claims
Through the documents he presents, the father of the 19-year-old claims that the fatal game was inappropriate and that the amusement park operated with responsible declarations instead of the required certifications.
The owner of the amusement park in Pefkohori, argues through his lawyer, that the business was operating legally.
“Mr. accused, who is at the disposal of the Justice, at any time, is 58 years old, has a clean criminal record, is the father of two minor children, a boy and a girl, has never had any illegal act and practiced until the day of the accident, in a completely legal way, his profession for 36 consecutive years”, said Alexis Kougias, lawyer of the owner of the amusement park.
In an effort to shed a lot of light and punish those responsible for the tragedy, a three-pronged prosecutor’s investigation has been underway since the morning. The first concerns the accident, the second the operating status of the amusement park and the third the certifications and attestations it received to operate both this year and in previous years, with the head of the Thessaloniki Appeals Prosecutor’s Office asking the first instance prosecutor Polygyros to oversee personally of the three specific criminal investigations.
The revealing document
Mega has released an engineer-signed disclaimer for the game-turned-deathtrap.
Signed on May 3, 2024, it states that all necessary measures have been taken for the safe operation of the amusement park and games, including the crazy dance. The fatal game that cost the life of 19-year-old Giannis.
Early evidence indicated that the fatal game was a cheap copy of the Italian-made crazy dance.
Investigations into the accident in Pefkohori continue, with the father of 19-year-old Yiannis appearing determined for one more day, to move heaven and earth until those responsible for his child’s death face the consequences of their actions.
The description of the tragedy by the 19-year-old’s brother is shocking
“We went to the amusement park to have fun. We went to that game because it impressed us. We are sitting and he comes and tells us to sit in another position. In the chair where the accident happened. At first he goes easy and then very hard. To the point where I couldn’t stand it and gritted my teeth. I hear ‘scratch scratch’ behind me. I feel it coming off. I tell him ‘Yoannis is breaking the seat!'”, the brother of 19-year-old Yiannis told Mega.
“He tried to grab my top and purse. The blouse and the strap of the bag were also torn.”
His little brother, Dimitris, who was sitting next to him in the fatal seat, remembers and describes the last moments, the last words, the last look he exchanged with his brother before he disappeared from his sight.
“I tell my brother I can’t stand it, it goes too fast. He laughs and suddenly I feel the seat break. He looks at me, I look at him, I hear a ‘crack’ and I see my brother disappear from my side.”
“Before we sit, I tell him how you cut us to fit in one seat. He tells me you can. Don’t worry.”
“I was on my back for another 10 seconds because he got up and walked away and left it open. Another came and stopped it. On foot he tried to stop it. He didn’t know how to stop it. I manage and get out of the chair and go to my brother and see him in this state that I saw him in.”
“I have 5 days to eat and sleep and I will not be able to sleep or eat unless Justice is served.”
The 19-year-old’s father breaks out
The father of the unfortunate young man spoke of a situation that is unprecedented.
“There is nothing legal about the amusement park. You don’t need to be an expert to understand it. I have video in my possession, which I took myself, and the power supply goes through water and is covered with tapes,” he said.
And he reiterated that the amusement park was operating without a license, while revealing that “the municipality closed six shops and did not close the amusement park”.
“They know everything. Where are those who should apologize?” he burst out. “The one who will defend the owner of the amusement park in court should tell me why he didn’t ask me and took my child. For 25 years I have been coming and going to Athens, which is my job, to raise them. Do they want to tell me who is responsible for my child’s death? Who killed it? That’s the point.”
Mr. George also stated that “from this story” he does not want to collect anything. “I will donate the money in memory of my child. My goal is to manage not to be a parent like the rest.”
“I gave my child to God and from then on I am not afraid of them. When I hear about reputable lawyers I am happy because they will help the truth come out. Me and my family will do everything we have to do,” he emphasized.
The lawyer of the 19-year-old’s family, Apostolos Angelakis, emphasized in his turn that “a permit is pending for this particular machine and that the municipality should have intervened and stopped its operation since May”.
He also said that today the prosecutor was asked to bring the only certified body for the machine to give answers about its origin.
In turn, Tasos Dedes, the family’s expert, spoke about a tragic and unacceptable situation. “There is a platform from a car with two twin wheels, on which the whole system is mounted. It has support blocks with running water, with generators, with garbage. It is a completely unacceptable situation. We’re talking about sarzanits mixed with polyesters, about handrails that have holes and safety belts are screwed on them,” he described.
