In the early hours of Saturday, October 19, the municipality of Betania, located in the southwest of Colombia, suffered a disastrous impact due to intense rains that damaged at least 15 homes, as well as damage to road infrastructure and the supply of water. drinking water. The situation has been critical for the inhabitants of these rural areas. The emergency has been especially hard for families that depend on agriculture, particularly coffee production, which is the region’s main source of income. Local authorities, together with the Antioquia Risk Management Department (Dagran), have begun conducting a damage census in the most affected areas and are working on assessing the damage and planning the necessary repairs. The mayor of Betania, Diego Guerra commented on the support they have received from the authorities “the departmental government is committed to providing the necessary support to restore the infrastructure and guarantee access to basic services,” he stated.
