Disappointment for Arnaud Assoumani, only fifth in the long jump

The Frenchman, Paralympic champion in 2008, failed to reach the podium in the T47 long jump on Tuesday at the Stade de France.

Frenchman Arnaud Assoumani, Paralympic champion in 2008, did not manage to do better than fifth place on Tuesday at the Stade de France, in the T47 long jump event.

Despite a final jump of 6.77m, the best of his six attempts, the athlete with the stylised prosthetic arm did not manage to reach the podium where his opponents all cleared the seven-metre mark.

Cuban Robiel Yankiel Sol Cervantes was crowned Paralympic champion with a jump of 7.41, ahead of Chinese Hao Wang (7.32) and Russian Nikita Kotukov, competing under the neutral banner.

Paralympic champion in 2008 in Beijing, Arnaud Assoumani is one of the most recognized voices in French parasport. He also carried the Olympic flame on the steps of the Cannes Film Festival last May.

He took part in his sixth Paralympic Games in Paris, winning a total of five medals (one gold, two silver and two bronze).
