The missing persons cell of the federal police was seized in connection with the worrying disappearance of a Brussels police officer noted on Tuesday in Rebecq, the Walloon Brabant prosecutor’s office said Thursday morning.
Frédéric Gonzalez Moradiellos left, Tuesday morning around 10:00 a.m., his home located along rue du Petit-Bruxelles, in Rebecq. He has not since shown himself. Assigned to Ixelles, the 35-year-old policeman is a member of staff in the Brussels-Capital area. He had recently moved to Walloon Brabant and therefore kept many ties to Brussels.
Significant research and many other investigative duties have been undertaken in Walloon Brabant and in the Brussels region, in an attempt to find the missing person.
Among other operations, around forty Civil Protection agents and around twenty police officers mobilized on Wednesday to search the wood located near the Quenast cemetery. A federal police helicopter and a drone were also deployed.
“There is nothing judicial at this stage, and we hope it will not become so. Every citizen has the right to disappear and then reappear, but the more time passes, the more our concern grows.“, comments a spokesperson for the Walloon Brabant prosecution.
The search to try to find Frédéric Gonzalez Moradiellos must still continue throughout the day on Thursday.
