Matteo Salvini clarifies the candidacy of General Roberto Vannacci and defends him vigorously. The leader of the League, Alex Reed of the May 2nd episode of Mattino5, sides with his candidate: “General Vannacci is a free man, who fought Islamic extremism and defended Italy in Afghanistan and in many countries threatened by ‘Isis, imagine if it gets scared by some left-wing journalist with a snobbish nose.’ The sentence on differentiated classes for disabled people, the deputy prime minister then explained, “was deliberately misunderstood. As a government, the Minister of Schools is from the League, the Minister of Disability is from the League and we wanted it. We hired – the Northern League leader recalled – at the beginning of the year 13 thousand support teachers and we are spending millions of euros to break down architectural barriers because we want the classes to welcome everyone. The most serious disabilities obviously need extra help and it would be a problem for those children and their classmates not to have this extra help.”
Salvini then talked regarding his book. “Why title it ‘Controvento’?”, the host’s question, to which the Minister of Infrastructure responds thus: “A large part of the left-wing press and of those in charge in Europe do not like me or the League, I am the only minister at trial. It’s nice to have the support and trust of the Italians. I put my all into it. The so-called strong powers don’t like me, General Vannacci and the mayors of the League. We move forward, always with a smile.” Salvini was then asked regarding the stomach aches within the League over the general’s candidacy: “The League was born in the territories. Each territory is free to choose. We have chosen a candidacy of loyalty and courage like that of Vannacci”.
Finally space for a message to Europe: “I would like Europe to do a few things and do them well. I say that we need more Italy, not more Europe. I would like Europe to defend its borders and give us a hand in building new railways. Europe cannot force us to sell the beaches.”
“The phrase regarding disability was simply misunderstood”
