Director Park Chan-wook’s film ‘Decision to Break Up’ won three awards, including Best Picture at the 58th Grand Bell Awards.

At the ’58th Grand Bell Awards Film Festival’ held at the New Millennium Hall of Konkuk University in Seoul on the followingnoon of the 9th, ‘Decision to Break Up’ won Best Picture, Best Actor Award (Park Hae-il) and Screenplay Award (Park Chan-wook, Jeong Seo-kyung).

Director Park, who is staying in Los Angeles, USA due to an overseas filming schedule, expressed his impressions of the award through a voice message on the same day.

Director Park said, “I feel like I’ve received a big gift at the end of the year,” and added, “It’s an honor, especially since it’s the first Grand Bell award since it’s been normalized for a long time, and I think it will remain as an unforgettable and precious memory.”

He added, “More than anyone else, the faces of the two actors, Park Hae-il and Tang Wei, come to mind first, and I want to see many actors and staff. Thank you to the many audiences who loved ‘Decision to Break Up’.”

‘Sin City 2’ also received three awards. Following the Cinematography Award (Joo Seong-rim) and Editing Award (Kim Seon-min), Park Ji-hwan was named the ‘People’s Award for Best Actor’ given to an actor who has shown remarkable acting for the year.

The Best Director award went to Byun Seong-hyeon, who directed ‘Kingmaker’.

Then, national actor Ahn Seong-ki, who was saddened by the news of his recent battle with cancer, received the Achievement Award. Ahn Sung-ki, who might not come to the awards ceremony, conveyed her gratitude through her video message.

Ahn Seong-gi said, “My health worries a lot, but it’s getting better. I’ll see you all in a new movie.”

He emphasized, “Now, our films and filmmakers are attracting the attention of people around the world. The roots of that glory were planted and nurtured by our senior filmmakers, and I think it is the result of the competence and sweat of our outstanding filmmakers.”

He added, “I wish for the development of our films and filmmakers, and thank the people involved in the Grand Bell Awards event.”

Meanwhile, the Grand Bell Awards have suffered crippling due to fairness disputes and internal conflicts in recent years.

The preliminary examination method, which had been operated as an entry system, was changed to a selection system, and a national jury was also introduced. The practice of awarding the award on behalf of a person involved in the film industry or an acquaintance has also been eliminated if the winner is unable to attend. Instead, the organizers decided to deliver the trophy directly to the winner later.

The Grand Bell Awards Ceremony was so well received that most of the 800-seat venues were filled.
