Antonio Rafael Campos Olivero was dismissed this Tuesday, August 6 as director of the National Adoption Council (CNA), a decision that was taken by the Board of Directors of said entity amid reports that indicate irregularities in some adoption processes, reported sources from said entity.
“The National Adoption Council today made the decision to remove Mr. Antonio Rafael Campos Olivero from the position of General Director, in accordance with the Board of Directors Agreement number 07-2024,” a CNA source said on Tuesday.
Campos’ dismissal comes after the media outlet “Vox Populi” published a report related to the adoption of two siblings by the former director of the Government Center, Miguel Martínez, and that, according to the publication, irregularities have been detected in the process.
For the above, the Attorney General’s Office (PGN) reported that complaints were filed “for the possible irregular adoption of two children.”
She added that new protection measures were requested for the children of merit, who are under the protection and responsibility of a different home from the one they were in, in order for their adoption process to continue in a transparent manner, with a suitable family that meets the requirements established by law, “thus guaranteeing strict observance of the principle of the Best Interest of the Child and the restoration of their human rights.”
He rejected the accusations
The CNA also rejected the allegations and guaranteed that it complies with all technical, legal and administrative procedures during the processes.
The CNA “strongly rejects any information with malicious intent and spurious purposes that harms the institutional framework and, above all, the rights of Guatemalan children and adolescents who have been violated.”
Furthermore, the CNA states that “faithful to its principles and values, it complies with all technical, legal and administrative procedures to guarantee the restitution of the rights of children and adolescents declared to be in a state of adoptability.”
He adds: “Article 8 of the Adoption Law protects the confidentiality of the administrative adoption process, establishing that: “ALL actions within the adoption procedure shall enjoy the guarantee of discretion and confidentiality. This guarantee extends to the adopted person, adopter and biological parents in the part that involves each one.”
