The general director of Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez, assured that he will work “until the last day”, amid the doubts generated by his permanence in office ahead of his formalization next May for crimes associated with command responsibility for the events that occurred. during the social outbreak.
After the “consultation” that brought together the 40 generals of the institution, where objectives were set and internal balances were carried out, the authority declared that it would work “until the last day” and stressed that it was essential that Carabineros must always continue to function normally, according to La Tercera.
Likewise, he also asked the generals to “work until the last day, nothing has been said. Aspirations are valid and legitimate, but ambition produces greed and harms.”
Yáñez also referred to the case of Sergio Muñoz, former director of the Investigative Police (PDI), particularly the investigation carried out by Carabineros personnel, who were in charge of raiding the house and office of the former police authority: “It was a clean work,” he said.
In addition, he stated that the “latest events” have shown that Carabineros is a reliable institution for the investigative work of the Public Ministry.
Finally, he also highlighted the role of the Carabineros in natural disasters, their progress in human rights, among others.
“Sometimes memory is fragile, let us never lose sight of the complex moments that we have had to live through and everything we have done as an institution to move forward,” he said.
Yáñez will be formalized on May 7 for his command responsibility in the human rights violations in the social outbreak. The North Central Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office will formalize it for omission of crimes of illegitimate coercion resulting in serious injuries and homicide. His predecessor, General (r) Mario Rozas, and the former deputy director of the institution, General (r) Diego Olate, will also be formalized.
