Greta Gerwig has no plans to bring Barbie back for a second outing following the film’s huge box office success.
The director’s new film, which stars Margot Robbie as the iconic doll, grossed $162 million at the North American box office in its opening weekend (7/21-23/23) , making it the biggest opening weekend ever by a female director, but despite the good news, Greta Gerwig confessed she had no idea for a second film.
She told the New York Times, “Right now it’s [le premier film] All I have. I feel like at the end of every movie, I’ll never have another idea and everything I ever wanted to do, I did. I wouldn’t want to smash anyone else’s dream, but for me, right now, I’m zero. »
Gerwig then insisted that she felt totally overwhelmed by the success of Barbie: “It’s amazing to walk around and see people in pink. Never, in my wildest dreams, would I have imagined such a thing… Above all, I met enthusiastic, happy and exuberant people in the street, because a large part of this film was made in the purpose of creating something that people would want to experience together. So it’s the little things that count. »
