Mayer also worked as a camera assistant for television in the 1970s and 1980s and also worked as a photographer during this time. At the same time, however, the Viennese also started his film career. His debut film as a director was the 1985 documentary “Awakening,” in which Mayer devoted himself to the occupation of the Hainburger Au.
This was followed by portraits of the skier Erik Schinegger (“Erik(a) – The man who became world champion”) and Karlheinz Böhm (“Mr. Karl – A person for people”). And last but not least, Mayer is remembered as the director of countless “universe” documentary episodes. Most recently, Kurt Mayer directed the episode “The Hour of Jörg Haider” this year as part of the documentary series “Fate Stages of Austria”.
