Diplomatic relations between UAE and Qatar restored, embassies likely to open by mid-June

Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are working on restoring diplomatic ties and reopening embassies after more than two years.

According to the report of the foreign news agency Reuters, the official of the United Arab Emirates said that the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries is currently underway, including the reopening of the embassy.

Embassies with new ambassadors are expected to reopen by mid-June, sources in the Gulf country said, adding that diplomatic relations would be fully restored within weeks.

The restoration of relations between the two countries comes at a time when the process of reconciliation between Iran and Saudi Arabia in the region continues and last month the two countries signed an agreement in Beijing agreeing to restore relations, while tensions Due to this, there were fears of instability in the Gulf and an increase in the war in Yemen.

It should be noted that in mid-2017, several countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt, cut ties with Qatar, accusing Qatar of supporting terrorist groups and siding with Iran. While Qatar denied these allegations.

Riyadh and Egypt were the first countries to reappoint ambassadors in 2021, ending the conflict, while Bahrain announced last week that it would restore ties with Qatar.

All but Bahrain restored trade and travel ties with Qatar in 2021, but the UAE took time to restore diplomatic ties.

Relations between the UAE and Qatar improved last year when the leaders of the two states met in person.
