Diosdado Cabello is appointed as Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, renewed half of his Government Cabinet on Tuesday, making more than 15 changes in the highest positions of power in Venezuela. In this announcement, one of the most notable figures was the appointment of Diosdado Cabello in his new position.

Cabello was appointed Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, as well as Vice President of the Government for Citizen Security, this being the second time he has held the position since 2002, when the late President Hugo Chávez appointed him to combat the coup d’état.

“Diosdado brings luck, at that time he helped President Chavez to establish peace. He knows a lot about peace, about justice,” said Maduro.

Cabello, for his part, gave a brief speech in which he stated that in Venezuela “there will be justice” in the context of the post-election protests.

“I returned to that ministry 22 years later. I was Minister of the Interior in 2002. Today I believe that Venezuela is heading towards peace with justice, a peace where the people feel that those who have acted against the constitution receive timely justice. Fair justice! A soldier from February 4th at your service, President,” Cabello told Maduro.
