Dinosaurs in China | 4300 Dinosaur Footprints 150 Million Years Old Found In China – News18 Malayalam

The largest number of dinosaur footprint fossils have been found in northern China. There was a scientific announcement regarding this in the first week of July. According to a report in the South China Morning Post, Chinese researchers have discovered 4,300 dinosaur footprints in the northern Chinese province of Zhangjiakou. This discovery is considered a historic discovery in the field of paleontology.

According to the publication, which cites academics, the 9,000-square-meter-sized seals were created during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, or regarding 150 million years ago. Fossilized footprints, including claw impressions, were first discovered in April 2020.

The speed at which the dinosaurs walked, as well as their length and weight, can be determined from the tracks, China Daily reported. “The footprints not only reflect the life habits and behavior of dinosaurs, but also show the interaction between dinosaurs and their living environment at the time,” Xing Lida, a dinosaur specialist at the China University of Geosciences, told China Daily.

There are four different dinosaur species represented by the prints, none of which are named. Experts speculate that one of the fossils may belong to a yet-to-be-identified species.

Herbivores and carnivores can be determined in this collection of footprints. Carnivores were small, only four to five meters in size, while herbivores might grow to regarding 15 meters in length.

Scientists believe that the area may have attracted the dinosaurs as there was plenty of water and trees during the time of the dinosaurs. The area is now a tall, stony meadow with few plants.
