Digital technologies are transforming society, allowing great advances for women and girls; however, they also give rise to new challenges that can perpetuate or deepen gender inequalities, acknowledged Lourdes Colinas, UN Women Mexico national officer.
In the campaign for gender equality in the Mexican Stock Exchange, the representative of the United Nations for gender equality and the empowerment of women in the country, argued that digital exclusion in the world is a new form of illiteracy. “In Mexico, 63 percent of women who do not use the Internet reported that the main reason is because they do not know how to use it; In the current context, this leaves us in a situation similar to that of a few decades ago, which would have meant not knowing how to read and write,” said Colinas.
