DigiLens Announces Launch of SRG+

DigiLens Inc., a world leader in waveguide technology, is proud to announce the release of SRG+, the next level of surface relief gratings (SRG) that advances today’s industry-leading volume Bragg gratings (VBG). from DigiLens with better efficiency, uniformity, greater field of view and compact form factor, all at a low price and efficient mass production capability.

SRG+ breakthrough features (Graphic: Business Wire)

The SRG+ process is an extension of DigiLens’ well-established VBG technology. This results in an SRG structure with no residual skew level and best-in-class control over creating grid angles, leading to industry-leading efficiency and minimal eye glare. This allows for higher performance and more socially acceptable waveguide displays at a consumer price.

doctor Bernard Kress, president of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, said: “Over the past 50 years, Moore’s law has driven successive revolutions in IC manufacturing technology. Over the past two decades, nanoImprint Lithography (NIL) has been an excellent tool to replicate 3D nanostructure and has resonated well with the Wafer Level Optics sector, offering new opportunities from Metalenses to AR waveguide gratings. The need for expensive 3D-engraved models has been a limitation to their adoption in the production of consumer goods, especially when the number of AR waveguides is low. With the emergence of new challenges such as high-ratio, high-slope nanostructures with no residual levels over large areas, the industry is left with very few options. I am excited about the recent SRG+ developments from DigiLens, which provide a new low-cost replication technology that meets these drastic nanostructure requirements. The field of AR waveguides is the tip of the iceberg, as these new nanostructures and related cost models create new design and application opportunities from biotechnology to quantum and beyond.”

SRG+ features include:

  • highest delta-n: Higher diffraction efficiency and wider angular response
  • S&P bias: Ideal para microLED
  • No incline level: Wider angle response with high index glass
  • High grades: Grids several microns high with high ratios > 10:1
  • Greater efficiency: Longer battery life / brighter
  • wider field of view: Improved AR experience
  • lighter weight: Fewer waveguides
  • minor coverage: Lighter / easier to style
  • lowest cost: Much lower cost of models required for manufacturing
  • high performance plastic: Lighter weight / safer
  • Rapid scaling to volume production: Simple manufacturing processes and fast cycle time for waveguide design and manufacturing optimization

SRG+ benefits include:

  • 4 times the efficiency of a standard SRG waveguide at less than half the cost

  • Simple Process Extension for VBG

  • Ability to mix and match VBG and SRG+ structures to optimize the application

  • Lower eye brightness metrics

  • Close reflective efficiency at a holographic HOE price

“With SRG+, we overcome the challenges associated with conventional surface relief grids, such as those made by NIL techniques, reaching unprecedented structure heights of many microns and ratios that exceed 10:1, while maintaining low-cost fabrication methodologies. that underpin DigiLens technology,” said Alastair Grant, Senior Vice President of Optical Engineering at DigiLens Inc.

“Having a high aspect ratio and no polarization level allows for reduced stray light and higher efficiency, which can lead to better performance of light guide eyepieces that improve visual instruction and training to optimize workforce performance. ,” said Dave Velásquez, vice president and general manager of Corning® Gorilla® Glass. Corning Incorporated has joined the DigiLens Series D funding round as an investor in 2022. “There is promising potential for SRG+ to provide these important attributes for the future of AR technology.”
