It has been a strong season so far for DIF PA16. At the beginning of April, the team won bronze in an international tournament once morest tough opposition, and on Wednesday medals of the noblest value were won when the 08-born Blue Stripes defeated Mjällby in the final of the League Cup.
There were expectations of a tough match at Strandvallen and it also turned out to be a dramatic 90 minutes where Djurgården were in a two-goal lead until the hour mark following an early goal by Mille Selander while 2-0 came via a header from Mario Amini.
But Mjällby then reduced it to 2-1 through Elias Johnsson and in the 90th minute there was also a late equalizing goal from the Mjällby substitute. Extra heavy given that Milian Jansson had two frame hits before that.
With that, extra time awaited 2 x 15 minutes which was also goalless and penalties took over. There, Djurgården were the most clinical and in the end were able to decide for victory with a total of 5-4, this following Marco Biondi made his third penalty save and saved Mjällby’s last penalty whereupon Vincent Larsson then shot home the cup title to DIF.
A nice triumph and the cup in port for DIF PA16, who now get to go home and celebrate in Stockholm.
