The very controversial French humorist Dieudonné gave a pirate show in the village of Wasmes-Audemez-Briffoeil (part of Péruwelz). Persona non grata in Belgium since the interruption of one of his shows by the Brussels police in 2012, Dieudonné had made an appointment with his fans in a place communicated only a few hours before his show entitled “Foutu pour foutu”. A process which makes it possible to escape the forces of order likely to intervene on the spot.

Proof of the tension that reigned around the one-man-show of Dieudonné, his lawyers Henri Laquay and Michel Degrève were present in the room, ready to face the police. The 57-year-old recently addressed “apologies to the Jewish community,” he who has been convicted on numerous occasions for racist and anti-Semitic insults, incitement to hatred and discrimination, apology for terrorism…

When the polemicist occurred at the Ferme de Bouchegnies, the instructions to be followed were clear for the spectators: no question of taking photos or filming part of the performance.

Private invitations for the public

The owner of the magnificent Peruwelz estate, available for hire for various events (weddings, communions, birthdays, family reunions, etc.), was abroad at the time of the two performances. Despite the comedian’s bad reputation, Brigitte Vanhemmens says she has her back.

Dieudonné’s manager contacted us to rent a room for two dates. Things were very clear from the start, she tells us. According to the echoes heard, in particular from a personal friend who was present, the show took place in a respectful spirit, without the slightest overflow. Before he came, I received documents from the artist’s lawyers stating that he was not banned from performing (sic). And on my side, I took my information to be sure that everything was in order.

The manager of the Ferme de Bouchegnies, in Wasmes-Audemez-Briffoeil, does not see how the event poses any problem: “From the moment the signatory of the rental contract respects the place and the security conditions, what do you want me to do? There was no reason to refuse the holding of the demonstration. It is on the basis of personal invitations that people moved, moreover in a private place. Mores have changed a lot in recent decades and even if Dieudonné is a fairly cash humorist, he has every right to express himself. It is his freedom as an artist. If people don’t like it, they are free to stay at home.

”It is not the role of the police to provide security during a private event”, affirms the mayor of Péruwelz

Contacted by us, the mayor of Péruwelz was not notified of the arrival of the French comedian but he had heard rumors circulating regarding his presence in the region. “No official request has been madesays Vincent Palermo. What matters to me is the safety of the population. Here, it is at the discretion of the operator of the room. There is nothing to do unless the event creates disorder in the public space. It is not the role of the police services to deal with the security of a private place. There are agents from specialized companies who are there for that.

Dieudonné M’Bala M’Bala does not hesitate to circumvent the multiple bans on his shows to continue his tour. Last July, a pirate show was organized in the parking lot of the Strépy-Thieu lifts.
