A liter of diesel costs 1,998 euros on Thursday, reports consumer collective UnitedConsumers. It is the first time since the beginning of September that the recommended retail price of diesel is below 2 euros.
Diesel has been gradually becoming less expensive for regarding six weeks now. The price of fuel largely depends on the trading prices for oil. And those prices have been going down for a while now.
For example, traders paid less than 80 euros for a barrel of North Sea oil on Wednesday, the lowest price since July. American oil has also fallen in price in recent weeks.
The reason for this decline is doubts regarding the two largest economies in the world, China and the US. For example, the Chinese economy is faltering and traders are taking into account that interest rates in the US will rise because inflation is not yet under control. If economies are not running well, the demand for oil is also lower.
It ensures that we have to pay a little less at the pump, not only for diesel but also for petrol. The recommended price for gasoline on Thursday is 2.164 euros per liter. In September, the petrol price was above 2.30 euros for a short time.
In many places you pay less than the recommended retail prices. Especially when you get off the highway, you will find many gas stations that offer discounts.
