Although it increased by 7.59 won from the previous day, the average price of gasoline in Incheon recorded 1918.06 won per liter, showing a price reversal.
In general, because diesel is widely used for industrial purposes, it overturns the perception that the price is cheaper than gasoline because the tax is lower than that of gasoline.
It is known that this was due to a shortage of domestic stocks due to a surge in diesel prices due to the Ukraine crisis.
In addition, the government lowered taxes on all types of oil to prepare for a surge in oil prices, but the fact that the tax cut was less for diesel than gasoline also contributed to the price reversal.
However, looking at the national average of oil prices, unlike Incheon, only the price gap between diesel and gasoline has narrowed.
As of this day, the national average for diesel was 1924.15 won per liter and the national average for gasoline was 1935.72 won per liter by more than 10 won.
The problem is that Incheon, which has Incheon Port and Incheon Airport as its hinterland, is one of the regions most affected by the surge in diesel prices due to its high cargo volume.
In response, the government has decided to lower the fuel tax, which has been lowered by 20% since November last year, to a record high of 30% this month, and to provide subsidies to diesel to minimize the burden on the logistics industry such as commercial trucks, buses, and coastal freighters.
Nevertheless, it is difficult to feel the effect of the cut in the field, because the period for general gas stations to buy oil from refineries, store it in tanks, and sell it is regarding two weeks.
The industry expects that it will take more time for consumers to experience the on-site experience by reducing the amount of fuel while waiting for the price to drop following the announcement of a further reduction in fuel tax.
