ALGIERS- The Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Mokhtar Didouche supervised, on Saturday in Algiers, the opening of the 24th edition of the International Crafts Fair, with the participation of more than 290 craftsmen from different wilayas and 57 others from 15 countries.

During the opening ceremony of this edition, which will last until June 24 at the Riadh El-Fath esplanade, the Minister noted the importance of this meeting which coincides with the start of the summer season, recalling that the craft industry now includes a range of activities which provide more than 1.2 million jobs.

Highlighting the imperative of affixing a label to the national traditional product to protect it from any possible counterfeiting, Mr. Didouche considered that this fair, in which craftsmen from several countries took part (Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, Western Sahara, Turkey, Ukraine, Pakistan, Mali, Niger and Senegal), is an opportunity to promote local products and exchange experiences.

This edition has provided, for the first time, a special pavilion for the category of children to enable them to know more regarding the craft industry, and instill in them the culture of preserving authentic traditional heritage, he said.

The Minister of Tourism visited the various stands at the Show, in the presence of a number of members of the government and representatives of the various sectors concerned, and noted the concerns of craftsmen who highlighted “the need to make available to them the material first”.
