Didi Neuron: owner of 99 works in autonomous taxi with mechanical arm

The company Didi, owner of 99 in Brazil, presented in China last Thursday (13) an autonomous taxi project that, according to its predictions, may be available by 2025. The robot taxi called Didi Neuron is being worked on alongside alongside Chinese automakers, and should integrate a robotic arm so that passengers no longer have to lift the weight of their luggage.

“The expectation is that they can enter Didi’s network and provide services by 2025,” Didi Autonomous Driving Chief Operating Officer Meng Xing said at the announcement event. The idea is that up to 90% of the vehicle’s components come from the Chinese domestic market.

An interesting detail of the design of the blue and white vehicle is that, with automatic pilot, it dispenses with the space reserved for the driver, and expands its interior exclusively for passengers. The vehicle is equipped with 21 cameras, 14 radars, plus a large screen.

After nearly two years of regulatory issues, the company took advantage of the announcement event to talk regarding a new Lidar sensor and an automotive computing device.

Didi has been working with autonomous vehicles since 2016, which can be called up through apps and some cities in the country, such as Shanghai and Guangzhou. Among its partners are also the Swedish automaker Volvo, from Geely.
