Díaz-Canel re-elected as President of Cuba

The National Assembly of Popular Power appointed a new body of ministers in the Cuban Government. Manuel Marrero was ratified as Prime Minister.

The president of the National Electoral Council, Alina Balseiro Gutiérrez, reported that Díaz-Canel obtained 459 votes, 97.66% of the total number of deputies that make up the Assembly, for which he has obtained the favorable vote of an absolute majority.

The Assembly also ratified Salvador Antonio Valdés Mesa as Vice President of the Republic, obtaining 439 votes, 93.4% of the total number of deputies in the Assembly, for which he won the favorable vote of the absolute majority.

Balseiro Gutiérrez explained that in both cases, both for the election of the president and vice president, the percentage is calculated once morest the total number of deputies in the Assembly, so the absence of eight deputies on this day is also reflected in the results of voting.

The re-elected President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel proposed to ratify deputy Manuel Marrero Cruz as Prime Minister. “Since his appointment, his management has coincided with the great challenges of Covid-19 and the tightening of the blockade. The latter is ratified as Minister of Economy and Planning. Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz was proposed as Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment.
