THE gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics was not brought home by Indonesian archer Diananda Choirunisa. The progress of the female archer from Surabaya, East Java, had to be stopped in the quarter-finals of the individual recurve event by the host athlete from France, Lisa Brabelin.

“Reflecting on my matches, my target was actually gold. But you know yourself, maybe God has other plans,” he said recently.

“Now I’m going home first, taking a rest, but later I will enter the national training camp to prepare for the SEA Games,” said the 27-year-old woman.

Diananda said the Paris Olympics had added to her experience in the sport she has been involved in since childhood. Moreover, in the second Olympics she participated in, she managed to record an increase in achievement.

It is known that at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, four years ago, Diananda was only able to reach the round of 32. In Paris, she made it to the quarter-finals, aka the top 8. This result is inseparable from her more mature preparation compared to the Olympics in Tokyo.

“In this year’s Olympics, the preparation is more mature. Because for the Tokyo Olympics yesterday, we only participated in a few tryouts and at that time there was a Covid-19 pandemic, so it was not possible to participate in the tryout,” he explained.

“While in the last two years, we have always participated in every World Cup. So yes, it increases flying hours and increases self-confidence too,” continued Diananda.

He admitted to enjoying every moment of the match at the Paris Olympics. Every match he played did not feel like a big match, making him not nervous when shooting arrows at the target.

“To be honest, I wasn’t too nervous, much different from the Tokyo Olympics,” Diananda recalled.

Therefore, the daughter of East Java archery athlete Ratih Widyanti stated that she is ready to perform better to make Indonesia proud in the international arena. With the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand being the closest event to prove herself.

“The hope is to sweep the gold medals at the SEA Games,” said Anis, who recorded 670 points from 12 sets at the Paris Olympics, the best score of his career. (Kemenpora/Z-6)
