Mujinga Kambundji took 7th place in the 100m at the Eugene meeting, the third stage of the Diamond League. The Bernese achieved 11”11 in a race won in 10”79 by Elaine Thompson-Herah.
The 60m indoor world champion was not sufficiently explosive on her first steps to approach the 11-second barrier, under which the first 5 of this race passed. She nevertheless beat the time set a week earlier by 0.06 seconds during the Swiss club championships in Geneva for her first 100m of the season.
Elaine Thompson-Herah for her part signed a convincing success, on a track where she had panicked the stopwatch last August (10”54). The Jamaican beat the American Sha’Carri Richardson (2nd) and her compatriot Shericka Jackson (3rd), both credited with 10”92. Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith finished 4th in 10”98.
Jonas Raess 13th in 1500m
Second Swiss in the running in this “Prefontaine Classic”, Jonas Raess had to settle for 13th and penultimate in the 1500m for his first outing of the season outdoors. The Zurich man (3’42”56), specialist in the 5000 and 10’000m, remained nearly 5 seconds from his personal best over the distance. Victory went to New Zealander Samuel Tanner (3’34”37).
