Diagonale Prizes 2023: 13 awards for 11 ORF co-financed productions

Graz (OTS) This year’s Diagonale ends today, on Sunday, March 26, 2023, with the main award ceremony – the ORF was represented with a total of 35 productions in the program of the Austrian film festival in Graz. After the Franz Grabner and Thomas Pluch screenplay prizes were awarded to a total of four productions with ORF participation during the festival week, there are now a further nine feature films and documentaries co-financed by the ORF as part of the film/television agreement a media art project among this year’s winners. For example, the Grand Diagonale Prize for Best Feature Film goes to “Vera” by Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel, while the Grand Diagonale Prize for Best Documentary Film goes to Chris’s “Souls of a River” at the awards ceremony in the Orpheum Graz crikellis. In addition to the ten film projects that were represented in the Diagonale 2023 program, the production “Rotzbub” (VAM Diagonale Prize for outstanding production achievements in 2022) is also among this year’s award winners (ex aequo with “Corsage” and “Rubikon” ).

Diagonale Prize for production design and costume design from the Association of Austrian Film Decorators VÖF/Best production design: Martin Reiter for “Corsage”

Diagonale Acting Awards in cooperation with the VdFS – collecting society of filmmakers for a remarkable performance by an Austrian actress and an Austrian actor in a Diagonale’23 competition film:

VAM Diagonale Prize for outstanding production achievements ex aequo to the following three productions:
Film AG for “Corsage” (Alexander Glehr and Johanna Scherz);

Aichholzer film production for “Rotzbub” (Josef Aichholzer and Ernst Geyer);

Diagonale Prize for Film Composition of the Austrian Composers Association / Best Film Composition Feature Film: Karwan Marouf for “Stars Under the City”

Diagonale Audience Award from the Kleine Zeitung/most popular film of the Diagonale’23: “Feminism WTF” by Katharina Mückstein

The diagonal ’23 on Flimmit

Flimmit (flimmit.at) is back on board as a long-standing streaming partner and took over the patronage of the short film program this year. Works such as: “Ciao, Czerny, Ciao” by Elisabeth Jakobi and Maximilian Conway, “Until I lie still” by Yana Eresina, “mise à nu” by Simon Maria Kubiena and Lea Marie Lembke and “Bohemia by the Sea” by Dominik Enzi. The Ö1 film editors curate and comment on selected Diagonale winning films from recent years for Flimmit. The festival package is rounded off with a selection of award-winning films from previous editions of the Diagonale, assembled in a separate collection, including works such as “Die Dohnal” by Sabine Derflinger and “We’re still staying” by Arash T. Riahi.
