[아이뉴스24 최상국 기자] The Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI, President Shin Hyeong-sik) announced on the 4th that it has developed a non-invasive self-diagnosis kit that can effectively identify diabetes using various body fluid samples such as urine and saliva in addition to blood.

The research team of KBSI Dr. Choi Jong-soon and Han Do-kyung developed a platinum nano-polymer functional composite material with an enzyme-simulating catalytic function and secured a technology capable of detecting sugar with high sensitivity. In addition, we developed a sugar analysis plastic self-diagnosis kit with a unique structure that allows easy self-diagnosis.

The research team said that the self-diagnosis kit developed this time can easily detect glucose in blood, urine, and saliva down to several milligrams within 15 minutes. Diabetes can be identified intuitively by changing the color of the detector.

In the currently developed kit, the discoloration of the detection part is photographed with a smartphone, and the test result can be checked through free computer software. If the kit is commercialized in the future, it can be used to develop an early diagnosis app for smartphones, and it is expected that self-examination will be possible more easily.
