The original Diablo debuted on December 31, 1996, a New Year’s surprise from Blizzard Entertainment that launched a legendary action RPG franchise, eventually achieving cult status.
Diablo’s influence transcended simple popularity; it spawned a whole subgenre, inspiring numerous imitators.
Each New Year marks another anniversary for this gaming behemoth, and yesterday marked the action-RPG’s 25th birthday. To commemorate, the creators unveiled a trailer showcasing clips from every Diablo game. The celebratory video also features memorable moments from BlizzCon, impressive cosplay, and the unveiling of Diablo Immortal.
The initial Diablo installment is available for purchase on GOG. A revamped version of the second game, powered by a new engine, was released last year, and Diablo 3 currently features the Fall of Tristram event.
