Diablo IV menus are heavily criticized for the placement of one button in particular, which leads to mistaken purchases!

The editor Did Blizzard voluntarily place the button to buy the Battle Pass Premium of Diablo IV where the players would click on it by mistake ? The question really arises…

Blizzard has created an interface that intentionally tricks its players into buying the Battle Pass?

The launch of the Diablo IV season 1 was plagued with problems, and players are increasingly unhappy. Among the issues reported, one is at the heart of much controversy: accidental activation of Battle Pass Premium. Streamer Rurikhan expressed his displeasure with a supporting video, showing how he inadvertently activated the Season 1 Battle Pass Premium by simply going to the Season menu. According to Rurikhan, Blizzard would have intentionally placed the “Activate Premium Battle Pass” button near the button used to check Season progress, resulting in unwanted purchases. Even more than placing the buttons close to each other, it should be noted that the cursor is by default placed on the activation of the Pass, not the button to view its progress. In other words, he just one click by mistake to buy the Pass (this is especially true on console, because on PC the keyboard-mouse combo allows the click error less easily, since the cursor is not placed by default) if you have a Battle Pass token. This practice is strongly criticized, with some not hesitating to qualify this design as an intentionally misleading design. Famous streamer Rhykker also joined in the review, calling Blizzard to add confirmation to avoid this type of situation.

Rurikhan: Blizzard has therefore placed the “Activate Battle Pass Premium” button right next to the button you must constantly press to check your Season Journey (seasonal progress).

Guess what happened to me and at least 5 other people on my stream. This is simply a malicious design.

When we go to the Season tab, the slider selects by default “Activate Battle Pass Premium”. They knew exactly what they were doing.

Rhymes: When an interface element is designed to entice you to click on it, this is called a “dark pattern”. In my opinion, Blizzard needs to add a confirmation button or something if they don’t want to be accused of using misleading interfaces. A simple “Confirm” pop-up would solve this problem.

Shiny Sheep : I did this 100% by accident. I had a Battle Pass with my Ultimate Edition pre-order and was considering waiting until Season 2 to use it, given all the issues with the recent patch. This kind of design does not happen by accident. So frustrated and disappointed.

Blizzard promises to fix the issue quickly

Faced with the wave of criticism, Blizzard responded by promising a fix for this UI issue. Adam Fletcherdirector of global community development for Diablo IV, announced that a temporary fix will be deployed. It will modify the default selection in the Season tab, causing the cursor to no longer be directly on “Activate Battle Pass Premium” but rather on “Season Journey”. This patch should be deployed as early as next week. However, players remain suspicious and dissatisfied dealing with persistent issues in Diablo 4. Not sure that’s enough to calm some players downconvinced of Blizzard’s desire to try to trick them into buying.

Adam Fletcher : I just had a brief meeting with some people regarding it following the stream. We have a temporary fix in the works that will at least ensure that the cursor isn’t placed there by default and will be on “Season Journey” instead.

Rurikhan: I would recommend a temporary button to reset his Battle Pass, for those who wanted to save their Battle Pass for later and activated it by mistake, but I doubt it can be deployed in time for this season. I’ve seen hundreds of mentions that made the same mistake I did. Good luck. Hope things improve.

Dennis Topolski: Guys… The “Activate Battle Pass Premium” button is ridiculous. There MUST be a “confirmation” button on an option like this. There must be one … it’s mega dodgy.

Adam Fletcher : We will have an update that will move the slider to “Season Journey” by default, as an immediate fix in a small patch early next week.

Diablo IV: A success at launch, but patches that annoy players

Despite the controversies, Diablo IV had a meteoric launch with over 10 million players in June, making it Blizzard’s fastest-selling game to date, generating record revenue and profits for the publisher. Season 1 started off on a rather bad note., as we explained to you in a recent news. Now, Blizzard seems determined to fix the issues and no longer publish patches as controversial as the Season 1 patch. Players are now eagerly awaiting the future updates and Blizzard’s announcements regarding the future of Diablo IV. The publisher has already given a preview of the fixes coming in the next update, raising hopes significant improvements for the gaming experience Sanctuary adventurers.

Diablo IV est disponible sur PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series et Xbox One.
