A beginner’s perspective

Can the drop rates in Diablo 4 be satisfactory for a long time? How do you rate the endgame motivation? Is part 4 more worthy than parts 2 and 3 together? No idea. As a newcomer and non-Diablo professor, I can’t tell you anything about it. And for my test it is also insignificant. I am evaluating the game for itself and offering a fresh perspective, because there are guaranteed to be many players who are new to the series or even to the Hack&Slay genre with Diablo 4. Summarizing my Diablo experience so far: I was too young for part 2 and the Resurrected-Edition felt too old-fashioned for me despite all modernizations. Part 3, on the other hand, failed despite all the fun because of an absolutely superficial thing: the look.

Diablo 4 tells its story most of the time through impressive render sequences. Visually great, content quite thin.

Just like the silly one that fell into the Dad Jokes pot Dungeons 3 the “Dungeon Keeper” alternative has taken its bite, also wanted the cartoony of Diablo 3 don’t let any adventurous mood arise in me. So my expectations for Diablo 4 beforehand were: Forge and perfect the formula as best you can, Blizzard. And don’t hold back, throw me into the darkest gloom the devil can spit. Be mystical and nostalgic. Bringing something different, with edges and scars, to today’s revamped, remake after remake spamming gaming landscape. Give me an isometric perspective of the world to fully experience battles and locations. Those were my expectations. Now comes the reality.

Chase after the movie

A group of robbers goes deeper and deeper into a vault, on the run from numerous monsters. Arriving at their destination, in a dark chamber, they become part of a summoning ritual that they pay for with their lives. From her sacrificed blood comes Lilith, the daughter of hatred. With a cloak of blood. And a sinister plan. This is the first of many render sequences that Diablo 4 uses to tell its story. The Graphic is popcorn bucket empty eating, the content is rather letterbox-brochure-thin. Don’t get me wrong: this is a dark fantasy that has been missed on screens for a long time. Not picturesque

0815-dragon-elven-magician nonsense, but the stuff even demons get nightmares from. At least in terms of looks.

Summarizing the content of these scenes, it remains that the characters throw ominous phrases at each other and refer to something of the past in Diablo lore. Cool fan service for insiders, plenty of Hä’s for the uninitiated. Fortunately, the story takes place in the background and aims more for atmosphere. To immerse you in the blood and light of this world. To teach you what hero you must become in order to stop the greatest threat. For a long time, however, gameplay and story hardly had anything to do with each other. The story basically just dictates the order of the areas. And before you meet Lilith in person, you will first chase after her many render sequences. The main attraction of the game remains the playfulness.
