What is the definition of annoying or frustrating? For example, if you are struggling to level up a hardcore character in Diablo 4 and lose him due to a disconnect, because he or she dies in the meantime. This has real rage quit potential.
If the game crashes or your internet connection hiccups for a moment, it can have serious consequences. You shouldn’t have to worry too much regarding this in the future.
What changes?
In the first Diablo 4 Campfire Chat Stream, Game Director Joe Shely and other members of the development team spoke regarding this topic.
It was confirmed that on the one hand they knew of a teleport bug that can lead to the deaths of hardcore characters. On the other hand, there are some bugs that have caused hardcore characters to die when they shouldn’t have.

“We’re investigating both cases, and once we’ve found the causes, we’ll take care of the fix,” promises Shely.
With disconnects things are different. There is no fix per se here because the problem can lie somewhere between the user and the server. However, another solution is required.
It looks like the game will automatically activate the “Scrolls of Escape” item when it detects a disconnect.

The Scrolls of Escape is a rare and hardcore-exclusive item that allows players to escape from situations that would normally result in their death. You can also use this in the middle of boss fights and teleport yourself back to the village.
So the plan is to add a disconnect detection feature to the Scrolls of Escape to get affected players to safety.
But: According to Shely, it is “very complex” to recognize disconnects, so something might slip through here and there, but at the same time the item remains rare and is consumed. So you can’t constantly disconnect in tricky situations and get yourself to safety. Ultimately, however, it should help reduce the number of such hardcore deaths.
According to Shely, however, this can only be expected in Season 2 at the earliest, i.e. probably no earlier than mid to late October 2023. With the bugs mentioned, however, the goal is to eliminate them earlier.
