The passing of Commissioner General (Ret.) Dharma Pongrekun and Kun Wardhana in the administrative verification stage for the improvement of individual or independent gubernatorial and vice gubernatorial candidates in the Jakarta Pilkada is questionable. The existence of the Dharma and Kun pair is strongly suspected of having been conditioned from the start.
“It’s conditioned to be possible. It’s not also possible,” said political observer from the University of Indonesia, Ujang Komarudin, Jakarta, today.
According to him, there are several scenarios carried out by the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) in the Jakarta Pilkada. Among them, the scenario of fighting an empty box or creating an independent candidate.
However, he said, the candidate supported by KIM Plus will still be the winner. Even though his opponent is Dhrama-Kun who is running as an independent.
“The ruling party like KIM Plus which is supported (by many parties) has a greater potential for victory, that is automatic,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) was asked to maintain its independence in the implementation of the regional elections. It is suspected that the Jakarta KPU deliberately passed the independent candidate pair Dharma-Kun to avoid an empty box.

Political observer from the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in Jakarta, Adi Prayitno, said that Dharma-Kun’s success was inseparable from the power of the political elite.
“The party elite can arrange the appearance of a single candidate against an empty box or a single candidate against a fake candidate,” he said.
He saw that the way politics in Indonesia had shifted. Politics was previously determined by the grassroots, now it has reached the stage where the party elite determines everything.
“Of course this is a common concern, where power is everything at the moment,” he said. (Can/P-2)
