The Secondary Criminal Chamber responsible for terrorism cases at the Rabat Court of Appeal on Wednesday sentenced seven individuals, prosecuted in separate terrorism cases, to sentences ranging from one year to five years in prison.

In the first case, the court decided to reduce the sentence handed down in the first degree against the defendant (NA) from six years to five years in prison and a fine of 5,000 dirhams, to confirm the sentence of five years prison sentence against the accused (AB) and a one-year suspended sentence against the accused (AA) for “creation of a criminal gang with a view to preparing and committing terrorist acts aimed at seriously undermining public order and condoning terrorist acts”.

Concerning the second case, the same court confirmed the sentence pronounced in the first degree against the two defendants (YN) and (AC) sentencing them to three years in prison and decided to convert the sentence pronounced against a accused in the first degree of two years in prison to two years suspended.

On the other hand, the court confirmed the two-year suspended sentence handed down in the first instance against three defendants prosecuted in separate cases.

The six defendants, prosecuted while at liberty, were found guilty of “creation of a gang with a view to preparing and committing terrorist acts and advocating a terrorist organization”.
