Detainees will be exceptionally authorized to receive baskets of foodstuffs from the second day of Eid Al-Fitr, only once during a week, according to a schedule defined by the management of penitentiary establishments, the Delegation announced on Tuesday. general prison administration and reintegration (DGAPR).
In recognition of the DGAPR’s decision to exclude periods of religious holidays from the definitive ban on packed lunches, given the positive psychological impact of these occasions on detainees and their role in consolidating ties with their families, “residents may, exceptionally, receive baskets of foodstuffs from their relatives, as well as from agents of diplomatic and consular representations, for foreign prisoners, during their visits and this, from the second day of Eid Al-Fitr, only once during a week, according to a schedule defined by the management of the penitentiary establishments”, indicates the General Delegation in a press release.
Penitentiary establishments will offer all the necessary facilities to their residents in order to contact their families and inform them of the scheduled date and the conditions required to introduce said baskets, adds the same source.
The DGAPR urges the families of the detainees to “commit themselves in a serious and responsible manner to contribute actively to the success of this operation”.
