DFB team: Leno surprised by debate after DFB cancellation

Bernd Leno recently received an invitation to the German national team for the games in the Nations League against Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Netherlands cancelled. This subsequently led to public discussions that Keeper said he had not expected.

Opposite the pay TV channel Sky said the keeper of the Premier League club FC Fulham: “I have to say that, surprisingly, there was a lot of talk and writing about it. I didn’t expect that. But everything was said. Most of what was in the media , was also true.”

He spoke “relatively openly and honestly” with national coach Julian Nagelsmann. “There was no messing around, so everything was good,” said the 32-year-old.

Leno had canceled participation in the Nations League games in Group A3 before the international break. The reason: “They told me that I would be there, but that I wouldn’t get a game. That’s why I decided to train in London. Julian knows that I’m always there when they need me and I’m really there for the team “I’m now 32 years old and no longer a newcomer, I’ve never made demands on Manuel and Marc, but I’ve always delivered and never made any jokes,” said Leno.

Nagelsmann had no choice but to accept the decision. “In the end, I live with Bernd’s explanation. It’s relatively simple, he made demands in the conversation that I couldn’t meet. That’s why I gave him a very interesting perspective, which is not about the short term, but in the medium term.”

In the end, “everyone has to know for themselves how they want to do it. Bernd decided that way.” Nagelsmann is “not closing the door now. But it hasn’t opened any further either. But if he plays outstandingly and the others don’t, the door can continue to open again.”
