Deworming campaign arrived in San Lorenzo as part of the Zero Hunger program

Asuncion, IP Agency.- This Wednesday, a mass deworming campaign was held for children and adolescents at the “Rita Surroca de Benítez” School in San Lorenzo, as part of the actions of the Ministry of Health within the “Zero Hunger in Schools” program.

Students received 400 mg albendazole tablets and drinkable ampoules as a single dose to reduce the prevalence of soil-transmitted helminthiasis, with prior parental consent.

This Wednesday’s activity marked the start of the national deworming campaign in the district of San Lorenzo.

Dr. Juan Lucio Aguilera, general director of the San Lorenzo General Hospital, highlighted the importance of collaboration between various institutions in promoting public health, especially with regard to deworming children and adolescents, within the framework of the Zero Hunger program.

During the event, he highlighted the support of entities such as the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Jaitýke Sevo’i campaign aims to reach more than 1,200,000 enrolled children and adolescents across the country.

Following the launch of “Zero Hunger”, the Ministry of Health is making efforts to ensure that students receive oral health, ophthalmology, deworming, proper nutrition and teaching good health habits.

The national deworming campaign was launched in 2013 through an agreement between the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Education and Science. Currently, it is implemented within the framework of Law No. 7,264, which expands and modifies Law 5,210, which consists of the administration of a drinkable tablet or ampoule of Albendazole 400 mg as a single dose, to reduce the prevalence of soil-transmitted helminthiasis in school-aged children and adolescents.
