The Devils and their Swiss colony will challenge the Hurricanes in the semifinals of the NHL Eastern Conference. Captain Nico Hischier and his teammates won 4-0 in Newark in Act VII of the first round which opposed them to the New York Rangers, thanks to a new shutout from Akira Schmid.
No. 3 in the hierarchy of goalkeepers at the start of the season, Schmid made 31 saves to become the 10th “rookie” in history to sign at least 2 shutouts in a series. The 22-year-old Bernese goalkeeper was named first star, as in Act V already won 4-0 in Newark.
