Oleg MATYTSIN, the Russian Minister of Sports is in Benin for a working visit. Willing to learn from Russia’s sports expertise in terms of cooperation, training and partnership between different sports associations, the Government of President Patrice TALON, through its Minister of Sports, Mr. Oswald HOMEKY, has co -signed this Tuesday, April 25, 2023 with his Russian counterpart, at the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation and training in the field of sports and physical education.
During the signing ceremony of this partnership at the yellow river room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Minister of Sports declared: “Cis a very important step that Benin and Russia have just taken. We will cooperate in the field of sport and physical culture. Sport is a force that unites us all. It is also the will of President Vladimir PUTIN who recently signed a conceptual document in this sense… If we speak the language of diplomacy, sport is the ambassador of peace… We see today that there is some turbulence in international relations. By signing this kind of Memorandum, we make the world more stable ».
For Minister Oswald HOMEKY, this signature of partnership is the fruit of the reforms undertaken by President TALON in the Sport sector. It will add:
« Lhe signing of this Memorandum is a founding act which is, for us, the beginning of a journey that we must take together. Benin is a country full of talents in all of our 77 municipalities and also within the diaspora… I am happy that the Memorandum that we have signed mainly includes the aspects of cooperation, with regard to training as well as cooperation between the different sports associations. It is a pleasure to have you by our side. ».
After the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, Oleg MATYTSIN, the Russian Minister of Sports visited the General Mathieu KEREKOU stadium in Cotonou and the Grand-Popo stadium in the Mono department, one of the 22 recently built by the Government of Benin.
