Development of Logistics and Transport Sector in Morocco: Accelerating Construction of Priority Logistics Zones

In response to an oral question from the group of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) on the development of the logistics and transport sector in Morocco, Mr. Abdeljalil specified that the acceleration of the pace of construction of logistics zones aims to provide a logistics land envelope that meets modern standards with suitable prices in favor of logistics players, as part of the continued efforts to reform the sector.

In this regard, the Minister indicated that a first series of projects for priority logistics zones has been defined in Agadir, Fez, Casablanca, Kenitra, Marrakech and Beni Mellal, on a total area of ​​230 hectares with a budget of around 1, 2 billion dirhams.

In addition, the minister underlined that the development works of the logistics zone of Ait Melloul in the region of Souss-Massa (45 hectares) have begun, with a budget of 350 million dirhams (MDH), while d he other development works in the other logistics zones will begin as soon as the necessary land acquisition procedures are completed. Mr. Abdeljalil recalled that Morocco developed the national strategy for the development of logistics competitiveness in 2010, to anchor national economic competitiveness and support sectoral strategies, in order to make the Kingdom a leading logistics hub in the space. Euro-Mediterranean and North-West African, noting that the ministry is working in parallel on the training of logistics actors.

To do this, the second edition of the PMELogis2 small and medium-sized enterprise upgrading program has been launched, explained the Minister, indicating that the program aims to support small and medium-sized logistics players by providing financial and technical assistance to enable them to improve their performance, in the period 2023-2027, with a budget envelope of 60 MDH.

On another note, the minister said that the road transport of goods is also among the priorities of the ministry in collaboration with professionals, specifying that the priorities have been established and that a common agenda has been set, defining the criteria for access to the function and the contractual framework of transport companies, through the establishment of a price reference for road transport and the maintenance of a balance between the prices of transport and those of fuel.

The action plan also provides, according to the Minister, to regulate the weight status of a category of trucks and to activate the freight manifest with the aim of reducing overloading, accelerating the fleet renewal program with a annual budget envelope of 250 MDH, while continuing the free training program for drivers (100 MDH per year).
