Russian military bloggers said the attack targeted an outdoor ceremony. Ukrainian lawmaker Maria Bezugla, a frequent critic of Ukraine’s military leadership, blamed top officials for putting soldiers at risk by allowing such incidents.
“This tragedy keeps repeating itself. When will it stop?” he posted on Telegram.
Zelenskyy repeated his call to boost Western air defenses and urged allies to allow their long-range weapons to be used to strike deeper into Russian territory to protect Ukraine.
“We continue to tell everyone in the world who has the power to stop this terror, air and missile defense systems need to be in Ukraine, not in a warehouse somewhere,” he said.
