The Emergency Committee in Hodeidah Governorate said in a statement carried by the Houthi-affiliated Yemeni News Agency (Saba) today, Tuesday, that “the death toll from the floods that hit Hodeidah Governorate has risen to 95 dead and 34 injured.”

She added, “11 people died during the past three days in drowning accidents, house collapses, and lightning strikes due to the heavy rains that hit a number of directorates since last Tuesday evening.”

The committee explained that “emergency relief work and assistance to affected families whose homes were swept away by floods will continue, as well as opening and leveling blocked roads and implementing urgent measures to drain flood waters to mitigate the damage and losses resulting from heavy rains and floods.”

Last Friday, the movement said that “the death toll from heavy rains and floods in the Red Sea coastal province of Hodeidah since the beginning of last August has risen to 109 dead and injured.”

This was preceded last Wednesday by the death toll from floods and rockslides in Al Mahwit Governorate (western Yemen) rising to 37 dead, destroying 30 homes and damaging about 200 others, according to what a source in the local authority told Sputnik.

Ansar Allah announced the week before last that 86 people were killed and 33,123 families were affected by heavy rains and torrential floods that hit the governorates of Hodeidah, Raymah (western Yemen) and Hajjah (northwest of the country).

Heavy rains and floods in Yemen have been concentrated since the beginning of last August in the governorates of Hodeidah, Marib, Al Mahwit, Raymah, Hadhramaut, Taiz, Saada, Hajjah and Sana’a.
