Bus caught fire after crash

Two young workers from the Fincantieri shipping company, who had witnessed the accident, rushed to the bus and tried to save the people trapped in the vehicle. 27-year-old Boubacar Toure, who comes from Gambia and works in Mestre, described in a video recording how he freed a little girl, five people and a dog from the vehicle.

“A terrible tragedy has struck our community this evening. I immediately ordered a day of mourning to commemorate the many victims who were on the bus that crashed. We have witnessed an apocalyptic scene, there are no words,” Brugnaro wrote on Twitter (X).
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani expressed their condolences to the victims and their families. Head of State Sergio Mattarella called Mayor Brugnaro and condoled the victims’ families.
