An exciting change is coming to the widget board of windows 11 Insiders this week with the arrival of the new Messenger preview of the widget.
On Wednesday, Microsoft announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25284 to the Dev channel. The release only contains a small set of fixes and is not available for Arm64 devices due to an issue that freezes devices at the OS boot logo. Nonetheless, it brings yet another improvement to the Windows 11 Insiders widget board by introducing a new widget for Messenger.
For insiders of the Messenger widget, the corresponding communication application must be updated to the latest version via Microsoft Store. After that, Insiders with Build 25284 can pin the Messenger widget by clicking the add or plus sign (+) in the upper right corner of the board.
While the improvement may seem less groundbreaking to some, it might be good news for those who still want to see third-party widgets on the Windows Widgets board. In previous build releases, all insiders received were repetitive changes to system widget functionality. With this, it is surprising that Microsoft is now introducing a third-party application in its widget array, which might indicate that the company will adopt more third-party applications in its operating system in the future.
On the other hand, while the third-party Messenger is a welcome addition to the array of Windows widgets, Microsoft said insiders might run into issues with it, given that it’s in the early stages of testing. Some of these issues include the occasional board disappearing or unpinning.
Here’s the changelog for Build 25284, which details known issues and fixes Insiders will receive.
