If chemical substances – regardless of whether they are of biological origin or not – are used, their environmental compatibility must be demonstrated, for example their influence on the groundwater. Deutsche Bahn writes that it will continue to work the track area “where it is permitted with approved (organic) herbicides”. “In other areas we are also increasingly relying on mechanical-manual processes.”
